I’ve seen many people reffering to ufotts as a ‘mod’ or a ‘patch’.
I’d like to clear this up, as this isnt a mod nor a patch to the original game. Its a remake. The fact that you can (but dont have to) use the original graphics doesnt make it a mod… we’ve rewritten the game’s engine from zero, we didn’t just modify some existing code or files. The game is definetly not a patch either. So simply its a game.

… a game that needs the original UFO Defense files …
are you implying with that comment this is a mod/patch? or what are you trying to say? I already said above that it is a game. And that you can play using the original files. Its not a requirement to launch the game and for the game to be playable. Also: the fact it uses those files means the game is not finished and not that its a “mod”. So…beside repeating the obvious, anything else you wanned to say?
well… u did a too good remake. people already think its a mod and they dont mean that in a bad way i guess. all here loved xcom and are very happy to see such a good remake which is making great progress every day.
@NeFuRii
Wow, you sound really pissed. Maybe i’ll answer you when you get a fresh breath of air.
I may have called TTS a mod or something over at GOG.com. I feel I should apologise for any annoyance caused.
Just gone back to look, and I called it a “total upgrade” which is even less clear.
Anyway, I’ll make sure to give you the proper credit in future postings!
@paper
Try to see it from NeFuRii
There are other ways to answer comments, ranting isn’t the best one. Besides nobody in the real world cares if this is a mod, patch or stand alone project – its a great work and the community is trying to become it even better with helping the devs with their feedback suggestions and bug reports.
If NeFurii only whats to be praised, I’m outta here.
@paper – hello, troll. Thanks so much for your “constructive” comments. Now, kindly get off this site and let us normal people live in peace.
@paper – your first comment was sarcastic, so I’m not sure what did you expect.
Its not about prise. I don’t see how calling a game ‘game’ is praising. But calling a game ‘mod’/'patch’ is simply using wrong words.
ffs guys this is a GAME in early stages.this is a beta but dont think by ‘beta’ means like real beta of a game lets say diablo or whatever.this GAME is in very early stages and by beta it means thats like 50% completed and they r making new graphics sounds etc.even at this point the game CAN BE RUN WITHOUT the UFO Defense game but there r still missing some graphics or music.so we use the UFO Defense until they find time to make our graphics and whatever needs fixing for only our convenience.i hope u understand my eng
and by the way the ufo defence was like 20mb this is like 300mb so i think this says witch uses who
I can imagine the reason NeFuRii is pissed off is that patching or upgrading a game is usually considered (rightly so in most cases) to be far less work and require far less skill than developing an entire game engine and game.
The amount of thought and skill that goes into creating such a complex project from scratch is hard to contemplate and even harder to explain to someone who has not been involved in such projects.
The time it takes and the huge level of devotion required is so much that I’m sure that most of us here have never and probably will never be able to muster for ourselves.
As far as I’m aware, there is only one programmer and one artist working on this project, the credited team that created the original ufo was several times larger than this.
The fact that this subject has even come up makes me a little feel a little sad inside, and reminds me how little understanding some people can have.
The points of NeFuRii’s merit and achievements aside, there may also be legal ramifications to this game being considered either a patch, mod, remake or otherwise, and as such for his own protection, NeFuRii has done right in clarifying what the project is, where the code has come from and what the requirements to run the game are.
