An event for Amiga fans was held this weekend in Chelm, Poland. Participants had the chance to see/show their old Amigas as well as modern Amiga operating systems which run on new hardware.

I have many fond memories of the Amiga computer myself. It’s where i first played ufo. I’m sure many of you share this nostalgia.

The anniversary 10th AmiParty featured Ufo: The Two sides presentation. Photose are a courtesy of Drako from the Ami Community, thanks. (The PC/Windows version was shown)

Our chief graphics artist had to temporarly stop working on the project due to personal issues. Although he will be back, it may take some time. Also, we weren’t able to find anyone to help with sound so far. (Re)Creation of game content has come to a stop, thus we are looking for people that could help us with one of the following:

- Remaking the original terain and unit tiles (graphics)

- Remaking/rerecording/editing free sound effects to replace the game’s sounds with better quality and to simply have a distribution not requiring extracting any files

- Composing new music for the game that would match the original’s spirit

Ofcourse its a free project, so except a place in the credits and satisfaction from work, you can not expect anything. On the other hand, we expect from you (in order of importance starting from the most important):

- Free time (and not “maybe i will have time or maybe not”. As much as we appriciate everyone’s attempt at helping us, undertaking a task and not delivering results creates chaos in team’s organisation)

- Some talent. Its a fan made game, so we obviously have lesser expectations as to quality of work compared to commercial games, non the less, a person only capable of doing some simple strokes in paint program/randomly adding dings and dongs in music composer should really reconsider if players will like the end result.

- Some work experience/knowledge of game mechanics/file formats used in the game/ techniques of making resources for games and general computer knowledge. This point is the least important, but it helps in communication.

Anyone who would like to help us and participate in the project, please contact us via e-mail, forum or irc. Irc would be the best way to communicate later, so would be good if the candiate could use it, but its not a requirement. If possible, please give us some examples of your previous work.

At the same time, i’d like to say that next patch is in the works, but i’ve been busy lately with other stuff, and only about 10% of planned fixes/additions has been made so far. Its a good opportunity for graphics/sound deparments to catch up a bit. 0.97 will be released eventually, but not soon.

Although its not a large patch when it comes to changelog, it has some cool user interface improvements – and that is its main feature :)

!EDIT!

There was a small leftover from testing – one of the starting alien ships had ethereals onboard. If you downloaded the game before this message appeared, please redownload it … or have fun with ethereals :)

As players suggested, we’ve changed human crafts design a bit to add second exit to all of them. Screenshots below. Note however that if you dont like those changes, you can always easily revert back to old design by removing files skyrager.txt, lightning.txt and avenger.txt located in ufotts/tilesets directory, and replace them with skyrager_old.txt, lightning_old.txt, avenger_old.txt. Since those are external files, this change will work both for single and multiplayer. Although in multiplayer be sure that both players have the same versions of those files. If not, game will crash sooner or later.

I’m curious what people think about some aspects of the game. Starting from today, i’m gonna publish some polls asking about ufotts and its mechanics. You can vote in the forum. Todays topis is ‘perception’

It’s here.

This time, we’ve fixed a lot of less apparent and more under the hood bugs. There are also some balancing changes, hopefully making game more fun both in single and in multiplayer.

Not all of the reported bugs or planned features have gotten into this patch. If you reported something, but dont see it fixed, it means we’re still working on it.

Its a good opportunity to say something more about game versioning too. Originally, the game was intented to be multiplayer only. The functionality so far already surpasses what was plannet at start. Still there are a lot of bugs that need fixing, and couple of unimplemented features (ufopaedia, winning/losing the game…), but we’re getting close to something I would call a real game. Once we get there, it will not be a beta anymore, and its version number will be 1.0. From there on, we will keep on working on features originally unplanned, that is xcom AI, as well as a couple of smaller additions/options. Non the less, I’m quite happy with the progress so far. The core gameplay is here, and it plays out as was intented at the start of this project.

P.S. As always. You lose compability with previous saves. And once again this is a full package, so it requires reruning the extractor.

I’ve seen many people reffering to ufotts as a ‘mod’ or a ‘patch’.

I’d like to clear this up, as this isnt a mod nor a patch to the original game. Its a remake. The fact that you can (but dont have to) use the original graphics doesnt make it a mod… we’ve rewritten the game’s engine from zero, we didn’t just modify some existing code or files. The game is definetly not a patch either. So simply its a game.
